JR Dread – “The Debut” dropping July 20th

15Jul

POSTED BY

July seems to be the month where artist are dropping new albums, I have to say my ipod shuffle is quivering with oye hoye and joy! JR Dread hit the scene his smashing rock fused single “Galliyan” featuring Labh Janjua. JR believes in quality and is continuing to work with other Punjabi vocalist for his new album, “The Debut” dropping on July 20th. His progressive sound caught the attention of Bobby Friction who showcased “Jaan Toh Pyari” (download promo) which has a radical influence of drum and bass. Jaan Toh Pyari has featured vocals of the late Kaka Bhaniawala, someone I truly miss… but I’m happy other young artist are using Kaka’s vocals to their fullest advantage.

What sets JR Dread a part from the rest is his ear and passion for an eclectic sound, something I truly value in an artist, because as a radio personality I don’t want to get stuck in a tunnel vision of featuring just “one genre” “one sound” that becomes boring and stale.

“I didn’t want to fall down the usual route of doing an album that’s based solely on one style of music. I didn’t want to do a pure Bhangra album as I would be cheating myself and the listeners. When every track is different then there’s a reason to listen from start to finish.” says JR Dread.

His 12 tracks include vocals from Nirmal Sidhu, Amar Arshi, Labh Janjua, Surinder Shinda and the late Kaka Bhaniawala.

Last week, UDR went behind the scenes of the new Jasmine Sandlas music video. Mixman Shawn gave us the inside scoop they will be combining two songs on the video, it all goes well within the scene. This is just curve any bootleggers attempts to hijack the tracks.

The video has scenes of Jasmine talking to her girl friends, being approached by a guy, Jasmine and Mixman on stage and a crowd getting pumped by Jasmine’s music. Jasmine was really excited because she could feel the energy of the extras in the video.

But every one wants to know… when is Jasmine’s album coming out? It will be out SOON! My prediction is we will be seeing this smoking duo in the clubs – performing tracks!

Jai Ho takes the gold once again…

rahman-grammy1

The streak carries on in 2010, Jai Ho won two grammys for “Best compilation soundtrack for motion picture” &  “Best Song Written for Motion Picture & Television” congrats to AR Rahman and team…

A stunned Rahman, 44, walked on the stage and said “This is insane, God is Great again…” personally there’s nothing insane or amazing about Rahman winning… he’s a musical genius… I would consider it an act of insanity if he DIDN’T win…

Can you believe that Danny Boyle (director of Slumdog Millionaire) actually considered releasing the film straight to DVD…

We’ll be posting the other winners shortly….

Urban Desi Radio launches 24 hours music stream

For Immediate Release
Mandeep Banga & Peta Cooper
Founders of Urban Desi Radio
urbandesiradio@gmail.com

IMMEDIATE RELEASE Jan 26th 2009: Urban Desi Radio (UDR) founded by Mandeep Banga and Peta Cooper, launched their 24/7 music player featuring the best in Urban Desi Music, UK Bhangra, Top 40 and old school tunes.

Ironically it was launched on India’s Republic Day, which commemorates the day where the “Government Act of India 1934” was replaced by the “Constitution of India.”

Mandeep Banga came up with the idea to launch the player, it took a couple of months of extensive research and how it could fit into the website.

“One of our goals, is bringing the user “entertainment on the go” from downloading our podcast to your ipod to keeping the player on while you are at work or studying.” Says Cooper.

The Urban Desi genre, is fairly new and came out of the UK music scene, for example if you tuned into BBC Asian Network, you will find South Asian artists covering all sorts genres in music. The Urban Desi genre is so appealing and refreshing.

‘The audience here in the Bay Area, still have to learn to adapt to the genre, for example, when Mandeep and I were doing the show 3 days a week on a South Asian radio station, I would get calls “why you playing English music?!” if those listeners took the time to do their homework of what radio is all about, they would understand what we were trying to showcase.” Says Cooper.

In the next couple of months UDR will be launching download applications for cell phones, so you can listen to the 24-hour stream wherever you are.
