Conscientious Hip-Hop with South Asian Voices

Just as Talib Kweli and Mos Def joined to combine Hip-Hop and education awareness among the African American community, these young South Asian artists are doing the same for theirs. I feel that these young Sikh rappers are an excellent example of hip-hop as current politics, history, inventive poetry and wordplay, critically reflective insight, and musically captivating activism. These artists are beginning a strong underground movement for social awareness that will exist not only among the young Sikh community, but for the South Asian community as a whole.

Kudos and peace to these brothers for enlightening many youthful souls… with each show at a time.

*****This limited video footage is of the show which was held at Sol Collective in Sacramento, CA on December 22, 2010.  Sikh Knowledge + Mandeep Sethi + Humble the Poet + Hoodini and King! + Povan Beats + Baagi + Push. Hosted by AKA Amazing. DJ Rav-E

All bow down to @HDhamiMusic

I think this pic was taken by Rishi Rish, here’s H hyping up the crowds at the Manchester Mela in the UK. The summer is filled with all sorts of melas, this a chance for the fans to get up close and personal with their favorite Urban Desi artist. The last time H Dhami was in the Bay, myself and Deeps we got to spend a lot of quality time with him after the show. I found him to be the most humblest individual in the scene, very polite with that cheeky sense of humor as well!

DOWNLOAD Twist and Shout SAMPLE 1:40

Taz (Stereo Nation) new album “Twist and Shout” has just got platinum in India, it’s certainly another milestone for the Prince of Asian Pop.

Taking a 60s classic from the Isley Brothers/Beatles, Taz revamped it with a Bollywood and Pop sping, after recording the song, he was requested to make a copy in Spanish, Russian, Arabic and many other languages.

I remember when I was in Birmingham, visiting Taz, we were jamming to “Twist and Shout” in his car on the way to his studio in Coventry, I knew it was going to be a big hit. The thing about Taz is that he really thinks outside the box. As an artist, you always have to keep moving forward with your craft. He has a gift blending music and his voice… oh man… his voice… absolutely amazing vocals

Experiencing World Cup Withdrawls?

I’ve found the perfect cure, this outrageous book filled with loads of humor and random facts about the World Cup – The Glorious World Cup, by Alan Black and David Henry Sterry. This is a MUST HAVE book for all you crazy footie fans!

Here’s an interesting fact when the world cup was held in the States, ’94, over 75% Americans DIDN’T know what the World Cup was. The press pass cost over 500 dollars and the Americans who did tune in couldn’t care LESS if America won or not.

It was a dark year in ’94 when Andres Escobar, a defender from the Columbia was killed for scoring a GOAL for the opposing team.

“The Flying Dutchman” aka Arjen Robbens lives by this quote – I put my brains in neutral and told myself “I will make it”

I thought Rooney was a lot older but he was born in ’85 and has a tattoo that says “just enough education to perform” (doesn’t say where the tat is!)

You got your trivia, profiles of famous players, on field glory stories and off field discretion (funny chapter), and a look back at some of the greatest world cup games.

Even though Netherlands lost, I was happy to see the Cup go to a country that’s never had the cup before… this year’s cup there were a lot of twist and turns!!!! Back to watching club football!
