Put Down The Desi Daroo And Support Your Local Music Artists

22Mar

POSTED BY

support-your-localI wish I saw more of this! Speaking from personal experience, why do people not support local artists? I’m talking about the South Asians mainly. If you look at the white kids, they absolutely love their local artists and bands. They would do anything to support them, have it be a concert at a local dive bar, a radio-hosted event, an appearance at t nightclub – you name it. I just don’t see this happening in the South Asian community, mainly with the younger South Asian generation.

There are a lot more individual artists in the South Asian music scene rather than music groups. In this blog, will name the top South Asian music groups on the scene right now who really know what they are doing! I really like the idea of South Asian music groups because by working together, each person can add a piece of the pie. Each person always brings something different to the table and that’s what makes a band really run. Luckily, I have experienced 3 out of these 5 groups in person so, I’m hoping that gives me some credibility for what I’m really talking about!

Where Does Jay Sean Go?

Last week, Jay Sean dropped a new song/video “Where Do We Go” some of his fans have raved that he was born to sing slow jams, but it leaves me wondering has his time run out with Cash Money? Clearly “Down” was no joke, it blew up the charts – but “2012” and “Hit The Lights” didn’t rock the charts. Even with Nikki Minaj (2012) and Lil Wayne (Hit The Lights) on featured those tracks. With his years of experience — especially after parting ways with Virgin Records, hopefully he has a back up plan with its time to say goodbye to Cash Money. In the meantime, if you are going through a breakup, put on this track….

Rimi coming back with a splash!

Rimi came onto the scene in 2006 with a Hindi/Western fusion album “The Unveiling and coming up in December she will be debuting her second album. We don’t have a lot of details, maybe another fusion album? But on her website she defines herself as a “hip hop” artist. So maybe this second album will have more of a hip hop influence to it? It’s nice she’s coming out with a second album and not living in the “one album hit wonder” bubble a majority of female artists we come across here on UDR.

According to her blog, she’s keeping the album genre a “secret” but has hit a few bumps in the road – luckily for us, these bumps artists hit usually produce some memorable tunes. I believe this album will take us on a journey of what Rimi has been up to these last couple of years. Welcome Back Rimi!

Damon Dash & Creative Control TV demo the Logitech Revue with Google TV technology hosted by Praneet Kailey. We are very proud of Praneet, a local Bay Area native who went up against thousands of contenders to host Logictech Revue. Will this make Steve Jobs rethink his “apple tv” concept? I think what Revue can do will make Steve jizz in his pants. We will be tracking what Praneet and the Logictech team are up to!
