Thinking about becoming Vegan? Tips from S-Endz

I tease S-Endz and call him my “Vegan Guru” (seriously he is) I’m still not convinced I can go completely vegan, however I’m attempting to adapt some vegan principals after juicing for 60 days. To me he’s the ultimate definition of coolness. Thanks for giving us a little dose of your vegan knowledge. 😉 (and giving me a lesson on vegan cheese over twitter heh)

Petz: I know you were a vegetarian for three years before the vegan transition. Think back to your pre-vegetarian days and now being vegan – how has your health improved?

S-Endz: My health has vastly improved since I became vegan. I have more energy, more stamina, my BMI is ideal, I’m more focused… But most impressively, I haven’t caught a single cold since I became vegan, even when I’ve been around multiple friends and family who have been sick. Dairy consumption leads to increased mucous production in the body, which is obviously to be avoided. I would suggest that everyone reading this goes and reads Dr. Robert Kradjian’s “Milk Letter” and/or watch the documentary “Forks Over Knives” to understand what dairy consumption is really doing to your body. It’s truly horrifying.

Petz: When you’re not in the studio, what sort of dishes does S-Endz like to whip up in the kitchen?

S-Endz: I like Indian food, of course. I learned from my Masi how to make a few things. I make a pretty awesome yellow dal, and aloo palak. I like making stir fries with tofu too, and I make great vegan Mexican food – bean burritos with lots of fresh veggies, jalapenos, guacamole and soy cheese :-)

Petz: Since you have had the best of both worlds, is it easier for you to be vegan in UK or US? What are the differences and similarities?

S-Endz: It’s definitely easier in the US because you can get a lot of great vegan specific products at even your average Wal Mart or Safeway, and you have places like Whole Foods. In the UK, it’s harder unless you live in London. But generally speaking, being vegan is easy, and much easier than I had thought it would be. In fact, if anyone reading this tries to go vegan even just for a few weeks, I’m confident they’d be surprised at just how easy it is.

Petz: Do you think you could beat Gordan Ramsay in a vegan cook off?

S-Endz: Honestly, I’ve never watched a single show of Gordon Ramsay so I have no idea whether he’d be able to make good vegan food. Given that he’s a chef by profession, I’d certainly hope so. But cooking for yourself is a different thing to cooking for others so I couldn’t say. I know how to make things I like to eat and that’s good enough for me!

Petz: Hey listeners, I personally think S-Endz can take on Ramsay! 😉

First off if this is the album cover, I’m already in love. Secondly no one can deny that S-Endz is a very unique producer and artist. He’s been a bit of Santa Claus lately. In the last two weeks he’s already given away two singles to his fans. We got them on our UDR 24 hour page. For right now, here’s his second single – Do U Wanna Come?

The eccentric British Indian pop/alternative/bhangra band – Swami, is Urban Desi Radio’s Artist of the Week. Even though Swami is referred to a Hindu teacher, the name is an abbreviation for “So Who Am I” (something I just learn right now) they been keeping busy these days…they did several shows in Canada this summer (Sugarless Tour)… check out the clips of S-Endz and Diamond at a studio in Toronto.. wicked stuff.

S-Endz and I we had a little twitter banter interview and he revealed the band was working on their next album. They are one of the first groups in the British Desi scene, I recall who really made use out of ustream to connect with their fans… I remember seeing clips of their band practice, it really gave the fans up close and personal insight of what goes on during a Swami Band practice.

I can’t wait for their new album… but still jamming to sugarless (awesome track)

This is so adorable and rocking! Check this out, one of Swami’s fans, Romy (age 9) drew a picture of the group! I loved how Romy had Bobby give a little wave! So cute!!! This is definitely work of art, if it doesn’t make front cover of the album… perhaps it can be put inside the album booklet… or made into a retro t-shirt for all of Swami fans to enjoy!!!
