The eccentric British Indian pop/alternative/bhangra band – Swami, is Urban Desi Radio’s Artist of the Week. Even though Swami is referred to a Hindu teacher, the name is an abbreviation for “So Who Am I” (something I just learn right now) they been keeping busy these days…they did several shows in Canada this summer (Sugarless Tour)… check out the clips of S-Endz and Diamond at a studio in Toronto.. wicked stuff.

S-Endz and I we had a little twitter banter interview and he revealed the band was working on their next album. They are one of the first groups in the British Desi scene, I recall who really made use out of ustream to connect with their fans… I remember seeing clips of their band practice, it really gave the fans up close and personal insight of what goes on during a Swami Band practice.

I can’t wait for their new album… but still jamming to sugarless (awesome track)

UDR Artist of the Week: Dark MC

The artist of the week is Dark MC, I had the pleasure of interviewing him about five months ago. His album Incisive feat. Angel, stayed on top of the SimplyBhangra charts for many weeks. “Chori Chori Takna” and “Dasi Ni Dasi” were my favorites. Dark MC is currently touring around the UK, he’s working on his new album, that will be dropping soon on MovieBox Records. I have to say he has a unique lyrical style when it comes to his songs, I think that’s what grabs the attention of his fans.

“’I’m a storyteller I lay down my experiences and my observations of life love and the like. My rhymes are dark and distinct I suppose you could say that I view life through ebony-coloured spectacles.” says Dark MC.

“2012” will be out on iTunes on August 3rd and the video will be debuting on MTV August 8th! Nicki Minaj is featured on the track. The bootlegged version was hijacked and put on youtube. It was quickly taken down and replaced with an instrumental track. The song made it’s radio debut on the Panjabi Hit Squad show,  with Rav and Dee, on the BBC Asian Network. It’s been making its way on the airwaves here in the states…check out the behind the scene videos of 2012…

Hip-Hop Artist, Blitz, is gearing up to release his highly anticipated sophmore album this September! On August 1st, he will be dropping his first single “Chumma” (Kiss) featuring the legends RDB. This is a huge collaboration for Blitz, who has been rocking the scene since ’07, with his debut album “The Rhyme Book” I actually picked up his album in Southall, it helped me get through some long delays on the tube. He’s one of the hottest Canadian exports to hit the UK urban scene. Celebrated in both the South Asian and Canadian rap scenes, Blitz will be shooting the music video for his debut Canadian single upon his return to Canada in September, featuring none other than Toronto rap legends Saukrates and Choclair.

Picture 55A couple of weeks ago, I was thinking what happen to Apache Indian? Growing up, I wore out my “Wild East” tape, I loved “pyaar pyaar (sample) 40 seconds

Had he dropped off the face of this earth? Little did I know, in his hometown of Birmingham UK, he opened a pub/restaurant called “Apache Bar” located at 190 Corporation Street, B’ham B75 6DP.

Last week, Brit Asia TV (Sky Channel 833) debuted “Real Talk” hosted by Apache Indian. It’s shot at “Apache Bar” and it’s a platform where they plan to talk about issues like politics, music, religion, identity, racism and problems the younger generation are concerned about. Toward the end of the show they will have musical performances… hopefully Brit Asia will put these clips on youtube for Apache’s American fans to see!

We need a show like this in America…. my TV media friends…. are you reading this! no more green screen with cheesy backgrounds, no more stale Bollywood songs… let’s learn from Brit Asia!

You can catch “Real Talk” every Thursday @ 9pm, repeated on Sunday @ 6pm & Tuesday @ 2pm

For those who are interested in performing or participating in real talk email – apachesbar[@]hotmail.co.uk  or realtalk@britasia.tv

All bow down to @HDhamiMusic

I think this pic was taken by Rishi Rish, here’s H hyping up the crowds at the Manchester Mela in the UK. The summer is filled with all sorts of melas, this a chance for the fans to get up close and personal with their favorite Urban Desi artist. The last time H Dhami was in the Bay, myself and Deeps we got to spend a lot of quality time with him after the show. I found him to be the most humblest individual in the scene, very polite with that cheeky sense of humor as well!

When I lived in Hayes, UK… I loved going to one of shops in Southall and picking up Sensazn Magazine… just the name itself was so catchy…I loved the articles and even wanted to write for them at one point. It’s sad to see that after a couple of years, they decided to close shop. Not even maintaining their online website… media of all types are really feeling the lack of businesses willing to advertise. No advertisement = no money = no magazine. Sad but true.

here’s the letter from the editor…

Thank you for all your love and support over the past few years…we really do appreciate it! Due to the relevant slow down in the advertising markets, we’ve decided not to take Sensazn any further, both in print and online.

It’s been a very eventful and exciting time since 2008, and I personally want to thank each and every supporter, reader, and everyone that provided us with the words of kindness and encouragement to keep us going, in particular  I’d would like to thank each and every member of the Sensazn team, who put in the time, effort, sweat and blood to make and create the great content that we did.

Anyone who spared a second of their time for us. You all know who you are, and every second dedicated has been appreciated more than you think.

We made a positive impact in the music scene, and then later in other areas, but as with all good things – one day it must come to an end.

Thank you.

Taco Bell Dog sighted in the UK

16Jul

tacobell

Taco Bell, the biggest Mexican food chain in the world has just opened their first restaurant in England (Essex). The chain plans to expand across the UK, for now this creates 40 s0mething jobs. While working in the UK, I missed my burritos, I was surprised their were NO TACO BELLS in England. Spain and Cyprus have open chains as well, they’ve been quite successful. Will the UK eat this up and say “Yo Quiero Taco Bell?!”

I think the Taco Bell dog has a tea date with the Queen.

Petz lives in a media cave and really doesn’t like Taco Bell. Gimme Nandos!!!!

Ready to get a dose of THE TRUTH?

I trust my pals in the UK when they tweet me up and say “Petz you got to check out this new artist!” Read below to check out a new artist Mentor is working with!

A new artist stepping into the scene, I always love fresh meat mmmmm!!! On July 22nd THE TRUTH will be debuting his first single “Kya Karoon” and just hearing a sample of it, in this video… I can’t wait! The Truth born and raised in East London, as a teenager, the underground UK garage scene captivated his attention. He made his own way through the underground urban scene in East London… where he got to work alongside several MCs and producers. He went toe-to-toe through some tough ass MC battles, finally THE TRUTH was encourage by his mates and fellow MCs to take his music to the next level.

‘I want to make a difference to music, this has been my dream as a child, no more poor quality videos we want to raise the standard of music and represent Asians in the right way, it’s not always about material things and that’s THE TRUTH’. says THE TRUTH. And “truthfully” speaking the Asian scene needs that.

“Kya Karoon” pays homage to some of the British Asian Music industries big players like AG Dolla, Imran khan and RDB. It talks about a young rapper trying to make it into the scene, but not knowing where to go and what to do. I think at one point in our lives, we have all felt this way, I know I have when I was in London trying to “make it” on radio. It amazes me, the Asian scene in the UK is FILLED I’m talking FILLED like a LANDFILL of talented artists, but sadly 90% of the time we will never get a chance to hear their music. Look what’s happening right now with the BBC Asian Network closure, Friction had a strong platform of debuting new artists for our ears… As you can tell, this song, “Kya Karoon” already has me pumped up.

Working with Bobby Wonda, another emerging producer in the scene, has had a passion for music since the tender age of five. He’s felt the trials and tribulations down this musical road. Between Bobby Wonda and THE TRUTH, together they will give the Asian scene an electrifying pulse!
