We are gonna party like its… 2012?

I’m still partying like it’s 1999… you can’t walk through an isle in a book store, without some author banking on the “fact” the world is going to end in 2012, just like the whole y2k hype…I’m still here… and you are too… reading this blog… Jay Sean flipped 2012 around and has made it in another “we are gonna party like the world is going to end” track…remember though, this isn’t the “official” release… it sounds like a rough cut to me… like that time the bootlegged version of “Maybe” leaked… we heard “myspace” in one version and “facebook” in another… no word yet on when Jay’s new album is coming out, the crazy thing is I was just thinking the other day – Down was blasting every where… where is Jay Sean??? Enjoy this track….

About the author: Petz lives in a media cave… loves to party… but these days… feels like old fart

Book S-Endz through Urban Desi Radio!

email: urbandesiradio@gmail.com

S-Endz is an artist and producer from Birmingham, UK, a vocalist and songwriter in critically acclaimed electropop band Swami, an affiliate of the late Tupac Shakur’s final group The Havenotz, and occasional presenter and actor.

Shooting to fame at age 16 following the release of the Swami album ‘DesiRock’ and it’s remixed international version ‘So Who Am I‘ on Sony BMG, the success led the band to embark on a world tour, including a headline performance at the MTV Style Awards. The title track would also feature in multi-platinum video game ‘FIFA World Cup 2006‘ and independent UK movie ‘Mischief Night‘. The popularity of Swami in India would lead to increased media exposure – notably Bollywood star Akshay Kumars infamous dance routine to ‘DesiRock‘ at the Star Screen Awards. Upon being asked to work on a song for the Bollywood movie ‘Corporate‘ starring leading Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu, Swami bandleader Diamond and S-Endz co-wrote and vocalized a new international mix of the films theme song ‘Oh Sikander‘.

Swami followed this up in 2007 with their album – ‘Equalize‘, which spun two further hit singles – ‘Hey Hey‘ and ‘Electro Jugni‘, the latter of which appeared on two popular Universal Records compilations: ‘Shaanti presents….Mighty Asian Beats‘ and ‘Made In India Vol. 2‘. Swami embarked on another world tour to promote the album throughout 2007 and 2008.

Swami returned in 2009 with ‘53431’, a hits compilation to mark 10 years of the band’s existence. It featured their biggest song to date. ‘Sugarless‘ was one of two new songs on the compilation and while Swami toured to promote the release, the song took off. All critics, bloggers and DJ’s of the South Asian music scene would later declare it to be one of their top songs of the year. In this time frame, S-Endz also hit big with his first solo release. The ‘Outer Space‘ EP delighted DJ’s worldwide with a fresh new sound, dubbed ‘Neofunk‘. Reviews were unanimously positive with the new sound, a mix of heavy hip-hop and funk with electro, pop and rock influences.

2010 will see the release of Swami’s international English language album on a major US label as well as the release of S-Endz’ debut solo album ‘Emanate‘.

White People adopting the Sikhism faith

Courtesy of Sikh Online

Television network RT, formerly known as Russia Today, has produced a feature on white people who adopt the Sikh faith.

The English-language global news channel, broadcast from Russia, focuses the article at first on the Miri Piri Academy, an international boarding school in Amritsar, the Sikh holy city in India.

Students there include the children of foreign converts to Sikhism, who wish their offspring to be comprehensively educated in the faith.

Among the teachers is a Russian-American who has taken the name Mahan Atma Kaur. She converted five years ago.

Students are drawn from 13 countries in Asia, Europe and America and speak eight language, reports RT on its website.

The TV channel talks to foreign converts from around the world and reveals that a 1998 survey had disclosed substantial non-Indian Sikh communities around Espanola, New Mexico, and Los Angeles, California.

It estimated that there were nearly 8,000 “gora” or “white Sikhs”, many of whom came to Sikhism as followers of Harbhajan Singh Yogi’s Kundalini Yoga.

RT says Harbhajan Singh Khalsa, better known as Yogi Bhajan, was a Sikh yoga teacher who settled in America in the 1960s, and died in 2004.

After his death the US Congress passed a bipartisan resolution honouring and effectively equating his life with great names such as Dr Martin Luther King Jr., Mother Theresa, and Pope John Paul II.

The article sets out opposing views on the rights and wrongs of white Sikhism.

It points out that conversion dates back to the 1860s and the conversion of Max Arthur Macauliffe (1841-1913), a senior British administrator in the Punjab. A noted scholar, Macauliffe is esteemed for his translation into English of the Sikh scriptures, the Guru Granth Sahib.
